Baileys Almande is not vegan

Baileys Almande

Bad news for vegan Baileys fans.

Almande — Baileys’ gluten- and dairy-free offering, touted by many on the internet as vegan — contains at least one animal product.

“We are closely listening to everyone’s feedback on Facebook and are therefore working to reformulate Baileys Almande as soon as possible to meet vegan certification.”

The good news is Baileys says it plans to remake the product to make it vegan friendly.

The statement follows weeks of speculation and a launch in select U.S. markets.

Diageo, the multinational alcoholic beverage company that owns Baileys, lists Almande’s ingredients and allergens on its DrinkIQ.com website, but questions remain.

Almande is to be available in B.C. and Alberta in late June, and Ontario in mid-July.
